What Is The Flu?

Flu is an illness resulting from an infection by the influenza virus. This virus primarily targets your nose and throat, and in some cases, it can extend to your lungs. The flu is highly contagious and can spread rapidly from person to person. This is particularly true in the winter months, as the influenza virus thrives in cold, dry environments. Due to its ease of transmission and the optimal conditions provided by winter weather, flu outbreaks are more common and widespread during this season. Protecting yourself and others through vaccination and good hygiene practices is crucial in minimizing the impact of this pervasive illness.

Why do I need a flu jab every year?

The influenza virus mutates and evolves rapidly, leading to the emergence of new strains. Annually, experts from organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) identify which strains are likely to pose the greatest risk in the upcoming flu season. Based on their findings, a vaccine is developed to provide protection against those specific strains before the flu season begins.
